Much Ado About Nothing
In 2002, Lane Community College theatre students reacted to severe departmental budget cuts by establishing Student Productions Association (S.P.A.). S.P.A. is an ever-growing troupe of dedicated and talented thespians that perform a vast array of productions at LCC. With the help of Faculty Advisor Patrick Torelle; Instructor Judith “Sparky” Roberts; and caring community members such as Chris Pinto and Scott Williams (Ret. IATSE #16), proactive theatre arts students were able to keep the performing arts program alive and well at Lane.
Annually, S.P.A. performs several full-scale productions (including a highly anticipated Shakespeare show directed by Sparky Roberts), various workshops, and the popular Term's End Shakespeare Recitals in the intimate Blue Door Theatre. S.P.A. also produces a handful of “Blue Door @ 4's” (cabarets of scenes and monologues); and “Spring Inspirations”—a seasonal showcase of student-written/student-directed pieces (selected from original works created in Patrick Torelle's Writing for the Theatre class).
